Will Ryzen cause a price war?

Postby thepeacemaker7 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 6:32 pm

Hey guys,
It sure would be nice if AMD's Ryzen cause a gigantic price war with Intel. Hopefully both companies will start making more powerful CPU's with more cores at cheaper prices. Hopefully we distributed computing data crunchers will benefit from the competition.

What do you guys think? :icon_razz:

AMD has Ryzen!

Interesting. I haven't considered an AMD CPU in many years. It could create a price war if the CPUs turn out to be pretty decent. I'd want to see some stats on CPU Benchmark and see how they compare with the Intel chips.

I'd love it, but I will wait to see real world performance specs once it officially releases. And I say this as a person who has owned various flavors of K6's, Athlons, Durons, XP's, x2's, and x6's.

One question I do have about that first chart, and forgive my tech-doofusness, but why are both lines 9 and 13 TDP? Line 9 shows Intel with a 140 Watt TDP vs AMD's Unknown. Line 13 shows Intel's 140 Watts vs AMD's 95 Watts. (Which makes me believe the hype even less, but one can hope!)

This website has another table that seems to be a little clearer:

It does look like Ryzen is 95W and Intel i7 is 140W TDP.

I'm hoping some reviewers like LInus from Linus Tech Tips can get a hold of a Ryzen chip as soon as possible. Ryzen is pretty much just AMD marketing at this point. lol
