For now, it’s best if Linux is your operating system of choice when testing Xeon Phi. Intel is working on support for Microsoft Windows (see below), but that effort is not as mature. Additionally, the Phi itself runs an embedded copy of Linux. In most cases, a Linux+Linux environment is going to be more seamless than a Windows+Linux environment.

I can't believe Walmart has it!!! Found it also on Amazon for less.

According to comments there they work with other mobos such as Tyan, check out the discount on the site. This model is of course 3 years old and is not the stand alone models still coming that will run Windows. It does require both a PCI-e power connector and mobo 8 pin (not pcie). One guy wrote this on the 57 core version:
57 CPU cores sounds attractive, but there are lots of drawbacks. First, not all motherboards support this card. To use this you motherboard need to "support for memory mapped I/O address ranges above 4GB". Second, software support isn't great. The Intel MPSS only supports a few proprietary Linux variants and Windows. Third, even if you get this thing up and running, that doesn't guarantee great performance for your program. In order for this card to beat CPU your program need to use hundreds of threads AND utilize 512-bit vector units. However, not all calculations can be optimized in that way. At last, the fan is noisy, the LED is glaring and they still work even if you "shutdown" the card.

From what I could gather this model won't run Boinc directly. There is a great discussion of a guys experiment with it on SETI.

Looks like more trouble than it could possibly be worth. Nothing in the SETI thread for 2 years kinda makes me wonder what happened.
